Why You Should Never Give Up on Your Dreams

Years ago when I was pregnant with my first son, I subscribed to a couple of religious blogs from Pastor Dave Whitehead (Daily Bible Verse) and Pastor Jack Wellman (Faith in the News). Reading through their messages constantly have not only helped me to get my much needed dose of inspiration and motivation to fix my physical and spiritual needs but have also presented me an excellent opportunity to understand the Word of God better.

I would love to share with you what I got on my email today: 4 Reasons to Never Give Up on Your Dreams

Why would you ever give up on your dreams? Perhaps they are from God.

Just One More Mile

Years ago there was a lady who was swimming across the English Channel, but she was nearly to the point of exhaustion. In the heavy fog, she couldn’t see the shore; so she climbed back into the boat, giving up, despite her coach telling her she was almost there. When she got in the boat, she could now see through the fog enough to see the shore. She said, “If I’d known I was that close, I would’ve never given up.” The point is, at the time we feel most like giving up on our dreams may be just before the dream comes true.

God-Given Dreams

Sometimes God gives us dreams and puts in our minds and hearts something He wants us to do for Him. Just like God gave Joseph dreams, He may give us dreams about something we have a strong desire to do. Often, our greatest passions or dreams are where God has gifted us the most in fulfilling those passions and dreams. Don’t give up. God put that desire in your heart in the first place; and if it glorifies God, then we know it’s His will.

Perseverance Pays Off

The race is not always to the swift but to the steady. I ran track in high school. There I was in the 800 yard race (before everything turned to meters), and I was ahead of the best runner in our school. The problem was, I started off too quickly and burned up much of my energy. I should have paced myself; but in the end, I faded. I still managed to finish the race, and our team took 1st and 3rd (me). The point is, never give up. Perseverance pays off in the end: at the finish line.

The Finish Line

Speaking of the finish line, the Apostle Paul was near the end of his race when he wrote in the very last letter he’d ever written before being martyred, “For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:6-7). He says, “There is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing” (2 Timothy 4:8). Think of that prize awaiting you at the finish line. In the kingdom, God will then place you where you couldn’t have ever imagined even in your wildest dreams.

Conclusion

If you have a dream, share it with someone. If your dream matches up with the will of God and glorifies Him but also matches with what’s written in Scripture, then stay with it; pursue and work toward it, and leave the rest up to God.
